White Long Grain Rice

"Rice is a type of cereal food that supplies nourishment to over half of the world's population. It is an indivisible constituent of many delicious desserts, snacks and other food items. White long grain rice is delicate in flavor and has such an aroma that it makes this rice the most wonderful amongst the variety. White long grain rice is cultivated and exported mostly from India. It is usually known as the 'Kind of all rice'.

White long grain rice are available in a number of types such as American Long-grain rice, Patna Long-grain rice, Basmati rice, Jasmine rice and Popcorn rice.

Rinsing long grain rice is not necessary since the rice we get is already clean. Also if you rinse it before cooking, it will wash away the starch and this will make the rice less sticky. If the rise is soaked, make sure that it is drained well because otherwise, more water will be used than intended.

White long grain rice should be cooked in a big pot which is able to keep the steam in. This is because long grain white rice cooks out to be double of its original size. You should make sure that the pot is big enough that there is space between the rice and the lid for the trapped steam. Along with this, make sure that the lid is of a tight fitting

White long grain rice can be cooked in two ways. You can put the rice in with extra water and when you've finished cooking it, you can pour out the excess water. The other way is through absorption. During this method, the long grain rice is cooked with a measured amount of water. When it cooked, the water has been absorbed and the steam that is trapped inside finishes the cooking. The case with water is such that more water gives you softer and stickier rice where as, less water gives you harder rice. It is advisable not to experiment with the amount of water when you are learning to cook long grain rice.

A slight amount of salt and butter can be added to the white long grain rice to give them flavor. Stir the rice in a saucepan and when the rice is boiled, simmer it, with the lid on for about 15 minutes. The rice should be left to simmer for around 10-15 minutes. After it is finished cooking, it should be left to rest for another 5-20 minutes and fluff it before serving. White long grain rice is used in various dishes and there are a number of ways in which it can be cooked."
